Special Member's Meeting

Special Membership Meeting Sunday, April 29th 11:45 am

Dear Member of Unity Spiritual Center of Lansing,

The Board of Trustees is calling a special members meeting for Sunday, April 29th following the Celebration Service for your input and decision regarding the dogwood tree located between the building and the parking lot.

Here is the dilemma.

  1. Although we are in discussion with a contractor about an addition, we are not quite at the point to have a congregational meeting to vote on proceeding with the addition.
  2. The addition we are exploring would require removal of the dogwood tree.
  3. To maintain the life of the dogwood tree, it could be transplanted.  Such a transplant would need to happen before it buds in order to give the transplant the highest chance of success.
  4. If the tree is not transplanted this spring and we, as a congregation, decide to move forward with an addition to the building before November, the tree would not survive a transplant and would need to be destroyed.
  5. USCL has one offer from a congregant to pay for the cost of transplanting the dogwood tree to their home in the next couple of weeks.  (Estimated cost to them is about $1000)

The membership will be asked to vote by ballot on the following item

Motion:  to allow the dogwood tree to be removed this spring.

There will be time during the meeting for an open discussion for ideas and other possible solutions to this dilemma.  Also, if anyone else is interested in investing in moving the tree, they should contact Rev. Sharon prior to the meeting.

We look forward to seeing you at this special members’ meeting.

Sincerely,

Your Board of Trustees,

Dan Maynard, President; Lesia Batchynsky, Vice President; Nancy Cody, Secretary , Greg Edwards, Treasurer;

Members at large:  Deb Otis, Greg Dening, Chris Janson
